What do you know about the acceptance and approval status of new food-related products (including those approved for expanded uses) in China between 2018 and 2022. In this article, our food experts will provide you with more detailed information about the registration status of food-related products.

According to the statistics, 227 products have been accepted between 2018 and 2022, with 58 in 2018, 48 in 2019, 39 in 2020, 58 in 2021, and 24 in 2022.

Statistics of new food-related products applications accepted in the last five years

From 2018 to 2022, the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHC) accepted the applications of 234 new food-related products (including expanded use), which include 96 Chinese products and 138 imported products. The statistics of applications accepted in specific years are shown in Figure 1.

Statistics of new food-related products released for public comments in the last five years

From 2018 to 2022, a total of 199 new food-related products passed the technical review of the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) and were issued for public comments. The statistics of public comments released in specific years are shown in Figure 2. Among them:

1. There are 124 new varieties: including 46 new food contact additives, 76 new food contact resins, 1 new food contact material and article, and 1 new disinfectant raw material; and
2. There are 75 food-related products with expanded use: including 68 current food contact additives and 7 current food contact resins.

Statistics of approved new food-related products in the last five years

From 2018 to 2022, a total of 196 new food-related products were approved by the NHC, The statistics on the number of approvals in specific years are shown in Figure 3. Among them:

1. There are 120 new varieties: including 45 new food contact additives, 73 new food contact resins, one new food contact material and related product, and one new disinfectant raw material; and
2. There are 76 food-related products with expanded use: including 69 current food contact additives and seven current food contact resins.
